Chinese Independant Schools in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor

Chinese Independent High School (华文独立中学) is a type of private high school that provides secondary education in Chinese language as the continuation of the primary education in Chinese national-type primary schools. Chinese independent schools separate their high school grades into two parts: junior high and senior high. Junior high (Junior 1, 2, 3) is equivalent to Form 1, Form 2, and Form 3; while senior high (Senior 1, 2, 3) is equivalent to Form 4, Form 5, and Form 6.

UEC (统考) was set up to unify the exams for Chinese Independent High Schools. The Junior UEC exam is similar to PMR. The Senior UEC exam is intended to be an equivalent to STPM and A-levels, and is recognized as such overseas in countries like the UK, US, Canada, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, India, and more.

Students at independent Chinese schools can still sit for all national examinations such as SPM. The subjects might be taught alongside the school’s own Chinese syllabus, or teachers might dedicate lesson periods to teaching the government syllabus.
